Port Orford Cedar
I carved this piece from a rough sawn driftwood plank I found on the Oregon coast. As I carved into the wood I found a piece of lead imbedded in the wood located at her left shoulder. The lead slug had to have been shot into the tree since there was no scarring visible in the wood. The tree must have grown over the slug and later the tree was cut and milled into the 8"x48" piece of lumber. There's no way to know at what point in history the tree was shot but the grain shows this tree was very old at the time it was cut and milled.
